Employees at most companies have the same routine: they enter the office, chat in the cafe or spread out on the lounge sofa and wait for everyone to arrive, then go to the field head’s office for an alignment meeting before the day starts. . According to Luiz Guilherm Guedes, CEO and founder of Grupo Epic – a creative economy ecosystem focused on the geek and gamer market created by seven startups – it’s too early to say whether the meeting will definitely move into this virtual space, but he says. That today, in the first phase of the experiment, the shortcomings created by remote work were addressed as a complement: the need for happiness.

“The idea to create office metavers came when we realized that the team didn’t want to go head-to-head. In fact, 70% of the Y and Z generations don’t want to go back. “We said okay, we’re not going to reopen offices, but we’re not going to lose socialization either.”

Since the world of games is precisely their beach, the company has developed a gamified 2D platform that can be accessed via cell phones, including 3G internet, and reproduces an even more physical version of Epic’s Office. It has games for decompression, training rooms, personal and meeting rooms, and even a cafeteria with “house mascot” – a dog named Luna and a cat named Luke, who exist in real life and interact with avatars, in metavars. The idea worked so well that customers started hiring them to create metavers for their own companies. 130 have already been designed since August for organizations in various fields such as Warner Bros., TV Globo, Bosch, Tim, Gerdau and the Golden Cross. Guedes explains that metavars in the corporate dimension also came to motivate, retain content, and solve internal communication problems, noting that the engagement rate in corporate training, which was not high before the epidemic (28%), dropped to 2%. Social segregation.

Another notion he highlighted was that people, especially the younger generation, were turning off the camera in virtual work meetings through “traditional” platforms, but in online games like Fortnite and Roblox, the camera is always open. “There are some studies that demonstrate that interactions between metavers increase human empathy in communication by 70%,” Guedes observed. “After three minutes, your subconscious believes you are there and it is hormonally transmitted to the brain. It creates a tribal feeling.”

He also reveals that there are interesting differences in how different generations use corporate metavars. Half of the 130 models that Epic has created so far have gone to companies where the team is mostly Gen X, while startups and tech companies are with Gen Y and even Gen Z.

“We’ve noticed that the X generation is using it in a timely manner for meetings, events, design ideas, guidance. It’s over, it’s over,” he explains. “Generation Z does everything. They have a crop on the table, a plant with water, Gmail opened on Metavers’ computer. These are people who are born with a gaming mindset and are accustomed to the concept of being online full time.”

Field analysis

Virtual experiment

Jr. Rodriguez, founder of Gespro, a training and consulting company that works with agile and digital transformation in companies, says that when everything moved online, people got bored of online meetings and the excesses of life.
